A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?
This was Joseph Orffeo (1926-2013), Old Man of the Hill, 1951; Gift of Arlan Peters and Dominic DeFillippo, 2014. This piece of art work had a huge impact on me because what i got from the art work was a gloomy night in the forest. Its dark and looks very spacious and to me this has a lot of meaning because in my life i have felt like this plenty of times where i feel all alone but the space there leaves potential for more than just nothing there are so many other things that can fill those voids . I am in love with this piece of art work it is amazing and it reminds me of myself my bad days and my good days because i love nature and this is a perfect masterpiece. I felt such a strong connection with this because when i look at it , it makes me feel hopeful about life even though it is somewhat dark. i love the dark side of it and thats what i think makes it beautiful.
This was created by Amos W. Sangster (1833-1904), Untitled, 1888; Intaglio etching with two vignettes, 16 ½ x 25 ½ inches; Gift of Paul McKenna. The reason why i feel this piece of art has mad such an impact on once again is because of the nature of the art work. it shows us what life looks like from the outside . To me this picture is completely beautiful the way that it is colorless and you can still see the beauty of nature as well as the beauty of life.
B.) Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?
Edith Lunt Small , The City (City of Rochester), c. 1980; acrylic on canvas, 48 x 63 inches (framed 48 3/4 x 63 15/16 x 1 5/8 inches)
I do feel a connection with this piece of work because i am from nyc and it some what reminds me that i am missing home. This piece of work is beautiful and i would love to have something like this in my apartment to remind me where I'm from because since I've moved to buffalo i have realized that not everything is fast paced like living in the city life and this picture is an absolutely beautiful way of showing a city the colors pop and it is not to heavily detailed which i love.
Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Impatiens and Love, 1/28/60; colored graphite, 6 5/8 x 3 1/2 inches (Frame: 10 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches); Gift of Mrs. Harold Olmsted, 1972
I also feel a connection with this piece of artwork because it is a flower and it shows the simplicity of beauty . Sometimes beauty can be the little things and doesn't have to have a lot to back it up. This flower one the page with a little heart at the bottom reminds me of something that i would draw because sometimes i am very simple with my drawings even though I'm not that great of a artist i feel like the simple things can truly show your emotion or bring out emotions in others.
C.) Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?
This master piece is ....Alexander O. Levy (1881-1947), Lady in White, undated; oil on canvas (possibly an advertising piece), 30 x 26 inches; Bequest of Frank Szuba, 2002. Conserved with funds from John and Carol Kociela.
I feel like when i look at this i don't know what exactly is going on . This is one reason why i would like to know more about this picture . the women is sitting there and it looks like birds are flying by behind her and this is such a mysterious piece of artwork. I would love to learn more about it and actually know what it is meant to say to the viewers or if it can vary between the different people who see it.
This art work ...Paul Sharits (1943-1993), Declarative Mode 1C, 1976-77; colored ink on graph paper, 14 x 21 inches; Gift of Sarah Hornbacher, 1988...
I would love to more about this one because when i see all these different lines and colors i don't know what to think. Since there are so many bright colors it gives me a happy feeling which i love about it but i would love to know more about what its meaning is and how it is suppose to make people feel when viewing it . It is really a beautiful piece of work but the lines throw me off a lot because i can't look deeper than the lines.

Wow! I walked all over the museum (or so I thought) but I didn't see any of the works you posted here. I wish I did - you chose some really interesting works. The Albright was a maze, so I think I may have missed a wing or two while trying to view everything.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't been to Rochester yet, I highly recommend it! Edith Lunt Small's painting may have been from 1980, but it's very similar to the way the city looks nowadays. I'm sorry that you're missing home, I haven't been away from my home city for very long, but I know I would miss Buffalo for sure!
The pictures you chose are very different but seem like they all a similar theme almost. I completely agree with your take on "The Old Man on the Hill", I have felt that way before too and had to find a way to get past that feeling.
