Module 12

Video 1
Hockney on Photography: I choose this video because photgraphy is interesting to me and i find it amazing to be able to take beautiful pictures that says a million words in one photo .  I believe this is a great art form .  I think its interesting to find out who discovered the polaroid  camera and how he experimented with polaroid collages .  I think it was great that he called it drawing with a camera because that could explain it no better than the next .  I loved this video because it got inside the persons head who was actually making the art work and it was great to find out what they were thinking and how this is a form of art.

Video 2
Uncertainty: Modernity and Art: I choose to watch  this video because it was more modernized and i could relate more with this .  The main point of this video is that uncertainty is the underlying message of modern art – everything is always changing. i thought that this was a great video because it  kept me interested as well as had plenty of examples of works that were done . There were lots of questions and answers in this video and it was very iformative to me .  This overall video was great and i enjoyed it .

Art Making/Material Exploration: Exploring Line

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
This is  difficult for me  because you can not  look at it as well as my hand can not stay well positioned.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
i choose pencil because pencil is alot easier than using charcoal and charcoal comes up alot darker and is harder to erase

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
This was hard for me because i barely use this hand for anything , i dont have alot of strength in this hand and can not control my skecthing as easily when i use my non dominant hand.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
My best one is the one that i did with my right hand and my  non dominant hand looked horrible .  i need to work on the strength in my non dominant hand and have more control over it .

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
yes i would because i think that it would be benficial to learn how to do everything that i can with my right hand with my left hand .

Module 11

1.   Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I chose the first two videos randomly and there was no specific reason I choose the two .
2
a)I learned that there are thousand tribes and regions in Africa  and that there are work varies and how they make and design there art, they have a  very unique way of actually creating their art and etc .

b)I like how the monks view art as a spiritual exercise. I learned that they create Mandalas which take alots of time.

3) I think that the videos relate to the readings in the text because the videos  talk about the concepts  that are in the text and etc.  I can now understand the concepts of art how to form a line and symmetry and all the other elements of art .  I can now see the different elements that I never realized before I started learning about  art .

 4) These videos taught me a lot more about art than I could have ever imagined we sometimes view art as very primitive and subtle and don’t realize everything that  goes into creating great art work .  and good example would be the mask of the Africans  fitting greatly into Picassos  painting in one of the other videos.

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?

It was and seemed very simple in the beginning but as I started to draw it was very hard  for me but it was an effective assignment for this specific exercise.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?

I chose to use pencils because  I still have mastered how to use charcoal very well just yet and I thought it would come out worse . Plus a pencil has an eraser so I can start over any time and fix anything necessary.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?

It was very hard for me because I never use that hand for drawing or writing and this was the first time I have ever even tried .

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?

My non-dominant hand was not able to apply the right pressure to the pencil or measure space between my fingers in that case easily either . I think it was  a good  project because it showed how much your dominant hand can do  over your non dominant hand.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?

No I wouldn’t because I have no control with that hand and it is very hard and aggravating when drawing with a hand that has no control and as well as needs a lot of training in order to create successful artwork.

 Module 9  ( 2 Videos )

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I selected the “The Drawings of Michelangelo”
“Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance” videos because I they both seemed interesting from the titles and where people I have heard about before

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

The Drawings of Michelangelo –  was bout an artist  who pretty much had a lot of his art work left behind when he was gone and his art work illustrated  the process of thinking . This man used many ways in creating artwork . When he was younger his superior taught him  some of his many techniques that he uses  such as  suggesting of figures and cross hatching. He also was able to express emotion with in his art work .

Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance –  This artist was during the renaissance and he had been working with artwork from when he was young , he had his father as support and was the one to send him to a studio in Florence Da Vinci was engaged in anatomical study and dissection to improve his skill.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The videos gave  me a greater understanding  of  what art is and what is can portray as well as the thought processes behind it . As well as spoke about the authors and how they grew into amazing artist .

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I loved the videos they gave me great insight on the renaissance  and showed me many things that art work can express .
